The best survey app for most people is Freecash, because it pays you for surveys and for games when the surveys run dry, and you can take your money by PayPal, Venmo, gift card or crypto.
Want the lowest cash out? Bigcash lets you pull your money at $1.
Testerup gives you $10 for signing up, but it pays best for games, not surveys.
Just want plain surveys? Survey Junkie pays from $5.
If you’re strapped for time, I’ll go ahead and share the best survey apps that you can add to your side hustle arsenal.
The best survey apps at a glance
| App | What you do | Cash out | Paid by | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Bigcash | Games, offers, surveys | $1 | PayPal, gift cards | The lowest cash out |

| Survey Junkie | Surveys only | $5 (500 points) | PayPal, bank transfer, gift cards | Plain surveys |

| Branded Surveys | Surveys, a few offers | $5 (500 points) | PayPal, bank transfer, gift cards | A second survey site |
| InboxDollars | Surveys, emails, games | $15 first, then $10 | PayPal, gift card | A balance in dollars (US only) |
Tap a name to jump to it.
Read the cash out column first, because a low minimum is what gets real money into your account and a high one can leave your balance stuck where you can’t touch it.
7 best survey apps that pay you real money
Sometimes you need some extra cash to pay a bill or you’re trying to save up for something you want.
Survey apps can help with that, a little.
They pay pocket money, and you’ll get kicked out of a lot of surveys before you finish one, so which app you pick matters more than you’d think.
The first three below pay for more than surveys, and that’s why they lead.
Surveys screen you out a lot, and on these three you can switch to a game or an offer when that happens and still get paid.
1. Freecash
Freecash pays you for taking surveys, playing games, trying apps and shopping through its offers.
It’s first because it gives you the most ways to get your money.
You can take PayPal, Venmo, gift cards or crypto, and PayPal and Venmo payouts usually process the same day.
So what does it pay? Freecash says most users earn from a few dollars up to around $50 in a typical month.
The catch: your first withdrawal needs an ID check and a minimum of $5 to $20, depending on your region. After that, PayPal withdrawals start at $5, and Freecash takes 5% of each one.
Where it runs a sign-up bonus, that bonus is a $10 account credit, added once you verify your email and start your first offer.
- Earn real money by completing surveys, testing apps, and trying game offers
- Cash out within minutes via PayPal, gift cards, crypto, and more
- First withdrawal needs $5 to $20, depending on your region, plus an ID check
2. Bigcash
Bigcash has the lowest cash out on this page. You can pull your money at $1.
Is it really a survey app? Partly.
It pays you coins for taking surveys, and for playing mobile games and finishing offers too, and 250 coins is $1. Most of its surveys take 5 to 10 minutes, and how many you get depends on your country and your profile.
That $1 minimum is why it’s this high on a survey list, because when surveys keep screening you out you’re still never far from a payout.
Bigcash calls $10 to $50 a week a realistic goal if you put in consistent effort.
You get paid by PayPal or gift card. PayPal payouts take 24 to 48 hours and PayPal can take its own cut, which is a big bite out of a $1 cash out, so let your balance build before you pull it.
Two more things. Bigcash can raise the minimum on your account. And skip any offer that wants you to spend money to finish it.
- Over 3,000 live offers on the platform now
- Cash out anytime through PayPal or gift cards with no complicated steps
- Get $15 bonus just for signing up and getting started
3. Testerup
Testerup pays you to test mobile games and apps and to answer surveys. New members get a $10 sign-up bonus, and it lists 90+ games and surveys to choose from.
The catch is that the $10 welcome bonus is only a head start.
That’s a long way to go on surveys alone.
Every offer shows its reward before you start, and some goals pay over $170. Most pay far less, so pick the games you’d play anyway.
You get paid by PayPal, gift card or bank transfer. It’s for adults 18 and up. You need a PayPal account in your own name, and Testerup checks your face before it pays you.
Is it worth it for the surveys? No.
Sign up if you’d play the games anyway, and treat the surveys as extra.
- Get paid to test apps, games, and offers...no experience needed
- Earn up to $100 per task by leveling up in popular games
- Fast PayPal withdrawals once you hit the minimum threshold
Want the details first? Our reviews of Freecash, Bigcash and Testerup go deeper on each one. And if the games are what you’re after, here’s how to get paid to play games.
The next four are survey and rewards sites that have been around for years.
4. Survey Junkie
I’ve used Survey Junkie on and off for years. It’s worth signing up for. Check what’s good when you have off time.
Survey Junkie is the pick if surveys are all you want. You answer surveys for points, every 100 points is worth $1, and you can cash out at 500 points. That’s $5.
It’s free to join.
And, I really mean free all around, free to join and they don’t charge anything to be a member (they will actually pay you in cash via PayPal).
You can take a bank transfer or gift cards too, and PayPal money typically shows up within a few hours.
What does it pay? Survey Junkie’s own example is about $40 a month for three surveys a day.
The catches: you’ll get screened out of surveys (you get a few points when it happens), and you may have to verify your identity before your first cash out, sometimes with a photo ID.
You have to be 18 or older and live in the US, Canada or Australia. Our Survey Junkie review has the rest.
- Share your opinion to help brands deliver better products and services
- Fast payouts, legit, and our favorite survey site
- Has paid out more than $25 million to its members
5. Swagbucks
Swagbucks pays you in points called SB for answering surveys, shopping, searching the web and playing games. 100 SB is $1.
I personally use it and usually earn money taking surveys while watching TV, and it does add up.
You can redeem for PayPal cash or gift cards with as few as 300 SB, which is $3. PayPal cash takes 2 to 5 business days, and the name and email on your PayPal account have to match your Swagbucks account.
The catch is the $10 welcome bonus.
You only get it after you spend at least $25 on one purchase through the Swagbucks shop, and purchases at Amazon and eBay don’t count, so don’t sign up for the bonus.
Sign up for the surveys.
It’s open to ages 13 and up in 11 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK and Australia. There’s more in our Swagbucks review, and here are other apps like Swagbucks.
- Earn points by taking surveys, playing games, and shopping online
- Redeem rewards like PayPal cash or gift cards to top brands
- Join millions who’ve earned over $706 million with Swagbucks
- $10 welcome bonus when you activate it and spend $25 in the Swagbucks shop within 30 days
6. Branded Surveys
Branded Surveys is a straight survey site. Most surveys take 5 to 20 minutes, and you see the estimate before you start.
You need 500 points to cash out, which is $5, and you get 100 points for signing up.
You’re paid by PayPal, bank transfer or gift card.
How much can you make? Branded puts it at $5 to $100 a month, depending on how much you take part and which surveys are open.
The catch is where you live. It’s only open to people in the US, Canada and the UK, and you have to be in one of those countries to redeem.
You’ll also see “not a match” on some surveys, which is a screen-out, so don’t take it personally and move on to the next one.
Our Branded Surveys review covers the rest.
- Pays users to share opinions through short online surveys
- Covers topics from brands, products, and daily habits
- Rewards can be cashed out via PayPal or gift cards once you reach the minimum balance
7. InboxDollars
InboxDollars pays cash for taking surveys, reading paid emails, playing games and shopping. Your balance shows in dollars, so there are no points to convert.
Most of its surveys pay $0.50 to $5.00 and take 3 to 25 minutes. There’s a $5 sign-up bonus.
The catch is the minimum. You need $15 in your account for your first payment request and $10 for each one after that. Its payment terms still say $30, so check the number in your account before you count on it.
You can pick a gift card or PayPal, and sometimes a prepaid Visa, and payment takes about 3 business days. For PayPal, your name and email have to match your InboxDollars account exactly.
It’s US only, and you have to be 18 or older.
Our InboxDollars review has more, and so does our list of sites like InboxDollars.
- InboxDollars is a legitimate way to make extra money online
- Operating since 2000
- Has paid its members millions in cash rewards
- Free $5 welcome bonus
Others worth knowing
Trust me, the top apps above are the best survey apps that you need. You don’t need to use 10+ different apps.
Still, three more are each good at one thing.
- Prolific pays cash for research studies, never points or gift cards, and you can cash out to PayPal once you’ve earned $6. The hard part is getting in, because you join a waitlist and wait for an invite.
- Google Opinion Rewards sends short surveys that pay $0.10 to $1.00 each, in Google Play or PayPal credit. With PayPal, you’re paid each time your balance reaches $2. How often a survey shows up varies.
- LifePoints pays points for surveys that run 10 to 20 minutes on average, and you trade them for e-gift cards or PayPal cash. Your points expire if your account sits inactive for 90 days (or for the first 30 after you join), so it’s a bad one to forget about.
What do survey apps really pay?
Not much.
Go back to Survey Junkie’s $40 a month for three surveys a day. The average survey there takes about 15 minutes, so that’s about 90 surveys and 22 and a half hours for $40, which comes to a little under $2 an hour.
And that leaves out the time you lose on surveys you get screened out of.
You won’t get rich taking surveys.
Treat it as pocket money for time you’d spend scrolling anyway. Here’s how to keep from wasting it.
Know why you get screened out. A survey closes once it has enough people like you, and that can happen while you’re part way through. If one survey provider kicks you out twice in a row, move on to another.
Check the minimum before you start. It’s $1 on Bigcash and $5 on Survey Junkie, and an app with a high minimum can leave you sitting on a balance you never get out.
Never pay to join.
A real survey site doesn’t charge you to be a member or ask for your bank login.
Use a PayPal account in your own name, and think about setting up a separate email just for survey sites, because the invitations pile up fast.

Which survey app should you start with?
Bottom line: start with Freecash. Add Bigcash if you want the lowest cash out, and Survey Junkie if surveys are all you want to do.
Give it a week. If you’re getting screened out more than you’re getting paid, switch apps before you give up on the whole idea.
And don’t pay anything to earn anything.
Survey app questions
Freecash is the top pick here. It pays for surveys and for games too, and you can take your money by PayPal, Venmo, gift card or crypto. If surveys are all you want, Survey Junkie pays from $5.
Bigcash, at $1. Swagbucks rewards start at 300 SB, which is $3, and Survey Junkie and Branded Surveys both pay from $5.
Yes. All seven apps in the ranked list pay by PayPal. Use a PayPal account in your own name, because most of them want it to match the name on your account before they pay.
Pocket money. Survey Junkie’s example is about $40 a month for three surveys a day, and Branded Surveys puts its range at $5 to $100 a month. Nobody should plan on surveys replacing a paycheck.
