Best Bank Account Bonuses and Promotions of 2026

Looking to open a new account? This are the bank bonuses that I would actually sign up for.

Tired of doom scrolling for bank bonuses and finding nothing but expired offers and fine print?

I spent the last few months opening accounts and chasing every checking and savings bonus I could find. Most weren't worth it. Some buried the bonus behind hoops you'll never clear. A few quietly took the money back with monthly fees.

These five are the ones that actually paid me. The catch with most of them is simple: you point your existing paycheck at the new account instead of your old one. That's it. You were getting paid anyway, so the bonus is basically free money for moving a direct deposit. Each card below shows exactly what I did, in plain steps.

The Bank Bonuses That Actually Paid Me

I opened every account below and collected the cash myself. If a bonus didn't post or hid behind impossible hoops, it's not on this list. Offer amounts and rates change often, so the live figure is on each sign-up page.

Best overall · the one I'd open first

SoFi Checking & Savings

Up to $425
What I did to get paid
1Opened the account online in about 5 minutes (no hard credit check)
2Funded it with at least $50 within 21 days for a quick $25
3Set up direct deposit ($1,000 in deposits pays $50, $5,000 pays $400, which two normal paychecks covered)
4Collected up to $425 total, plus a 0.70% APY boost on savings for 6 months
Also worth it: 3.30% base APY on savings (4.00% with the 6-month boost, about 10x the national average), paycheck up to 2 days early, no account fees, FDIC insured well beyond the standard $250K through its partner banks.
Claim My $425 →
Why I'd open this first: it's the only one where the value keeps going after the bonus. The boosted 4.00% on savings means the cash you parked actually earns instead of sitting dead in checking. Same paycheck, biggest payout on this page, and your money works afterward.
Big-bank name · branches you can actually walk into

Chase Total Checking®

$300
What I did to get the $300
1Opened a new account online using the Chase coupon (about 10 minutes)
2Set up direct deposit and let $500 or more come in within 90 days
3The $300 posted within 15 days of qualifying
4Kept direct deposit on (or a $1,500 balance) so the $12 monthly fee is waived
Also worth it: the largest branch network in the country (4,700+ branches, 15,000+ ATMs), Zelle and mobile deposit, FDIC insured to $250K.
Claim My $300 →
Why I added it: a guaranteed payout from the biggest bank in the US for one direct deposit you'd make anyway. The branch access is the part I actually use. When I had a question I walked into a local branch instead of fighting a chat bot. (Chase sometimes runs a higher $400 offer needing $1,000+ in deposits. The live coupon shows your current amount.)
Easiest to open · no credit check, works if you've been turned down before

Current Banking

$75
What I did to get the $75
1Signed up on my phone in about 2 minutes (no credit check, no ChexSystems)
2Made one payroll direct deposit of $200 or more within 45 days
3The $75 hit my account
Also worth it: paycheck up to 2 days early, no minimum to open, no monthly fees, fee-free overdraft coverage.
Get My $75 →
Why it made the list: not the biggest bonus, but the one nobody gets denied for. A past overdraft or closed account won't block you here, so it's what I'd point a friend to if a traditional bank turned them down. Fastest signup on the page and an easy first win before the bigger bonuses.
Highest savings rate · for money you want to grow, not spend

Raisin

Up to 4.10% APY
What I did
1Opened a high-yield account in a few minutes (you can start with $1)
2Funded it and entered the promo code shown at sign-up for the cash bonus
3Started earning up to 4.10% APY, with a cash bonus on top that scales with my balance
Heads up: Raisin isn't a bank. It's one login that pulls savings rates from 100+ FDIC and NCUA insured partners. No fees, no withdrawal penalties. The cash bonus mainly pays off on a larger balance, but the rate alone beats almost any checking account.
Open Raisin & Compare Rates →
Why it made the list: the national savings average is around 0.40%. This is where I park savings I want working harder than that, and it beat every traditional bank I'd used, all from one login instead of opening five accounts.

Where I Moved the Cash After

A bank bonus pays you once. After I grabbed the cash above, I put it somewhere it earns every day instead of sitting in checking. Here's where it went.

Where the bonus cash grows · not a bonus, a place to keep earning

Public

Up to 5.75%
What I did
1Opened Public in about 5 minutes
2Moved my bonus cash in, earning 3.30% APY with no fees and no membership required
3Put a slice into the Bond Account targeting ~5.75% yield, kept the rest liquid
Also worth it: cash, stocks, options, bonds, and crypto in one app. No payment for order flow, and unlike Robinhood the cash yield isn't locked behind a paid membership. FDIC insured up to $5M on cash through partner banks.
Open Public & Start Earning →
Why I moved it here: 3.30% on idle cash with no paywall, plus everything in one dashboard instead of five apps. The bonus money I collected above stopped sitting there and started earning the day it landed.

How I'd stack all of it: open in this order so the deposit windows don't overlap. Current first (one $200+ deposit), then Chase (direct deposit over 90 days), then SoFi (fund with $50, then direct deposit). About 15 minutes of setup spread over 8 to 10 weeks, all from pointing one paycheck at each account in turn. Then move the cash into Public so it keeps earning instead of sitting in checking.

Best Bank Bonus FAQs

Are bank bonuses taxable?

Yes. Banks report cash bonuses as interest on a 1099-INT, so set a little aside at tax time. The yield you earn on Public is reported the same way.

How fast does the bonus post?

It varies by bank. In my experience Chase posted in about 12 days, SoFi within 14, and Current's $75 hit right after my first $200 deposit.

Can I open more than one?

Yes, and you should. These are different banks, so opening all of them is how you stack to $800. Just space out the direct-deposit requirements so you can hit each one.

Where should I keep the money after I collect?

A checking account pays you almost nothing. I move the cash to Public for 3.30% APY with no fees, or the ~5.78% Bond Account for money I won't touch for a while. That's the difference between your bonus sitting dead and actually compounding.
