Chase Bank Promotions: $400 Checking Bonus and More Offers

New to Chase? The $400 Total Checking bonus takes $1,000 in direct deposits within 90 days. Here is every Chase offer, what it takes and when it ends.

The biggest Chase bank promotion open to most people right now is $400 for opening a new checking account and setting up direct deposit. Chase also has bonuses for teens, people without direct deposit, small businesses and investors, and each one has its own end date.

Three questions sort them fast. Are you new to Chase checking? Can a paycheck, pension or government benefit go into the account? And is this for you, your teen or your business? We checked every offer below against Chase’s own pages as of this update. The quick picks show what each one pays; tap one to jump to the details.

Chase Bank Promotions

Our pick is Chase Total Checking®: $400 for new Chase checking customers who make direct deposits totaling $1,000 or more within 90 days of offer enrollment. The bonus arrives within 15 days after that, and the offer expires 01/27/2027. The account has a $15 monthly fee that drops to $0 with $500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits each statement period, so the same paycheck that earns the bonus can also cover the fee.

Want the fine print? Fees, timing, and who qualifies
Take it if
You are new to Chase checking and get paid by direct deposit. $1,000 across 90 days is a low bar if you have a regular paycheck, a pension or government benefits such as Social Security.
Skip it if
You already have a Chase checking account, closed one in the last 90 days, or closed one with a negative balance in the last 3 years. Chase also limits you to one new checking account bonus every two years. And if you have no direct deposit, this one will not pay: Zelle®, check deposits, micro-deposits, tax refunds and transfers from another bank or brokerage do not count.
Costs
$15 Monthly Service Fee, or $0 when you do any one of these each statement period: get $500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits, keep a balance of $1,500 or more at the beginning of each day, keep an average beginning day balance of $5,000 or more across this account and linked qualifying deposits and investments, or link a qualifying Chase checking account. Chase says new accounts are not charged the fee for at least the first two statement periods. Other fees apply.
How fast
Chase deposits the bonus within 15 days after you complete the requirement. The account has to be open and not restricted at payout.
What you get
A checking account you can open online or in a branch, a debit card, the Chase Mobile® app, Zelle®, online bill pay and mobile check deposit. With Chase Overdraft Assistâ„ , Chase does not charge an overdraft fee if you are overdrawn by $50 or less at the end of the business day.
Is it legit
Yes. The offer comes from Chase and the account is a deposit account at JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. Member FDIC. The bonus is considered interest and is reported on IRS Form 1099-INT, so plan to pay tax on it.

Want the fine print? Who qualifies, and what counts
Take it if
You already have an eligible Chase checking account and a teen ages 13 to 17 who is ready for their own debit card. One offer code is eligible for multiple teens in the same household.
Skip it if
You do not bank with Chase, or you want to open online. You can’t open this account online. The parent or guardian is the co-owner, must have an eligible Chase checking account, and must be there in person. Chase High School Checking, Chase College Checking, Chase Secure Checking and Chase First Checking don’t count as the linked account.
Costs
The Monthly Service Fee is $0 for students 13 to 17 at account opening, with a parent or guardian as co-owner and the account linked to the parent’s personal Chase checking account. When your teen turns 19, it becomes a Chase Total Checking® account.
What counts
Debit card purchases, Zelle®, ACH credits, Chase QuickDepositâ„  and online bill payments all count toward the 5 qualifying transactions.
How fast
Chase deposits the bonus within 15 days after the 5 qualifying transactions, as long as the account is not closed or restricted at payout.
Is it legit

Chase Bank Promotions for Current Customers

Already have a Chase checking account? The $400 and $175 checking bonuses are off the table, because Chase limits them to new checking customers. Here is what is still open to you.

  • Refer a friend. Chase pays $50 for each friend who opens a qualifying checking account through your link, up to 10 referrals and $500 per calendar year. The referral offer becomes available about 30 days after you open your own account. Get your link at chase.com/ReferFriends.
  • A teen account. Chase High School Checking is built for you: the $125 offer requires a parent or guardian who already has an eligible Chase checking account.
  • A business account. The business checking bonus is for new business checking customers, so having personal checking with Chase does not rule you out.
  • An investing account. The J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Investing bonus is tied to your first Self-Directed Investing account and new money from outside J.P. Morgan Chase.
  • A credit card. Card bonuses depend on your history with that card, not on your checking account.

Chase says the friend you refer can get $400 when they open a qualifying checking account and complete the qualifying activities, which is the same Total Checking offer covered above.

How to Avoid Chase Monthly Service Fees

A bonus is only worth it if the account does not eat it. $15 a month is $180 a year, which is almost half the $400. Every Chase account below has a way to get the fee to $0, and you only need one of them each statement period.

AccountMonthly feeHow to get it to $0
Chase Total Checking®$15 or $0$500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits, or a balance of $1,500 or more at the beginning of each day, or an average beginning day balance of $5,000 or more with linked qualifying accounts, or a linked qualifying Chase checking account
Chase Secure Bankingâ„ $4.95 or $0$250 or more in qualifying electronic deposits, or an account owner age 17 to 24
Chase High School Checking℠$0For students 13 to 17 at account opening, linked to a parent or guardian’s personal Chase checking account
Chase Savingsâ„ $5 or $0A balance of $300 or more at the beginning of each day, or $25 or more in Autosave or other repeating automatic transfers from your personal Chase checking account, or a linked qualifying checking account, or an account owner under age 25
Chase Business Complete Checking®$15 or $0Any one of several qualifying activities, such as a $2,000 minimum daily ending balance. See Chase for the full list

One catch on Total Checking: qualifying electronic deposits are payments from an employer or government made by ACH and similar networks. Zelle®, cash, checks, wire transfers and interest do not count. If your paycheck is at least $500 per statement period, you are covered. See the $400 Total Checking offer

Do You Need a Chase Coupon Code?

No. You do not have to hunt for a Chase coupon code or type one in. When you open the account online from Chase’s offer page, the offer code is applied when you choose to open an account. If you would rather open in a branch, enter your email on the offer page and Chase emails you the offer to bring with you. The teen offer works the second way only, because Chase High School Checking is opened in a branch.

Either way, the offer has to be attached when the account is opened. Opening a plain account first and asking for the bonus later is how people miss it.

Is There a Chase Savings Account Bonus?

Not that we could find. Chase’s savings pages did not show a public savings bonus as of this update. The Total Checking offer page invites you to open a Chase Savings℠ account at the same time, but the $400 is for the checking account. If you want your savings to earn more, compare high-yield savings accounts instead.

A few other Chase accounts come up a lot and did not show a public bonus when we checked. We are not paid for any of these:

  • Chase Private Client Checkingâ„ . $35 Monthly Service Fee, or $0 with an average beginning day balance of $150,000 or more across linked qualifying deposits and investments. See Chase Private Client
  • Chase First Bankingâ„ . A parent-owned account with a debit card for kids ages 6 to 17, with a $0 Monthly Service Fee. You need a qualifying Chase checking account first. See Chase First Banking
  • Chase College Checkingâ„ . We did not find a current public offer page for it. See Chase checking accounts

Chase Promotions FAQs

How do I get the $400 Chase bonus?

Open a new Chase Total Checking® account as a new Chase checking customer, then have direct deposits totaling $1,000 or more land in it within 90 days of offer enrollment. Chase deposits the $400 within 15 days after that. The offer expires 01/27/2027.

Can I get a Chase bonus if I am already a customer?

Not the checking bonuses. Chase says they are not available to existing Chase checking customers, to anyone whose account was closed within 90 days, or to accounts closed with a negative balance within the last 3 years. Current customers can still earn $50 for each friend they refer, up to $500 per calendar year, and can look at the business checking, investing and credit card offers.

Do I need a Chase coupon code?

No code to type in. When you open Chase Total Checking® online from the offer page, Chase applies the offer code for you. If you would rather open in a branch, enter your email on the offer page and Chase emails you the offer to bring with you.

How do I avoid the Chase Total Checking monthly fee?

The Monthly Service Fee is $15, or $0 when you do any one of these each statement period: get $500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits, keep a balance of $1,500 or more at the beginning of each day, keep an average beginning day balance of $5,000 or more with linked qualifying accounts, or link a qualifying Chase checking account.

Is the Chase checking bonus taxable?

Yes. Chase treats the checking bonus as interest and reports it on IRS Form 1099-INT, so it counts as income for the year you receive it.

Does Chase have a savings account bonus?

We did not find a public savings bonus on Chase’s savings pages as of this update. Chase does invite you to open a Chase Savings℠ account alongside the checking offer, but the $400 is for the checking account. See Chase for current terms.

Which Chase Promotion Should You Pick?

If you are new to Chase checking and get a paycheck, take the $400 Total Checking offer and let the same direct deposit cover the monthly fee. No direct deposit? Secure Banking pays $175 for ten transactions. Already a customer? Your options are the referral bonus, the teen account, business checking, investing and credit cards. Whatever you choose, open it through the offer page so the bonus is attached, and open it before the date on the offer.
